A STATEMENT OF THE COUNCIL OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS OF METROPOLITAN CHICAGO REGARDING THURSDAY'S TRAGIC INCIDENT AT FORT HOOD, TEXAS

The members of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago (CRLMC) join with the Council of Islamic Organization in regret and sadness over the tragic killings and violence that occurred on Thursday, November 5 at Fort Hood, Texas. We also express our great concern that this dreadful incident not kindle violence and hatred in the Chicago Metropolitan area, in which we live together in mutual support and respect, nor anywhere else in the world.

The members of the Council of Religious Leaders have a long-standing commitment to stand with one another in condemning hatred and violence in any of its many forms. We unite today in expressing the care and oneness of our community of faith and faithfulness.

The Council of Religious Leaders is composed of the chief leaders of over 40 of the major faith communities and traditions of the Chicago Metropolitan area. Its President is Greek Orthodox Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos.
